Over the holiday break, I discovered a new use for my Nespresso Vertuoline...making peppermint mochas!
TBH, I never actually knew what a mocha entailed. When I realized it was chocolate and espresso, I also realized that I've been seriously missing out on life.
Since I'm pregnant, I try to limit my caffeine intake - not an easy task for someone known for her coffee-loving ways. I do allow myself a singular cup of caffeine each day and this is my very favorite way to enjoy it as of late.
I make a shot of espresso with my Nespresso (but any espresso will do!) and make the peppermint hot cocoa in my aeroccino. A simple milk frother will do, or even making your hot cocoa in a microwave.
I find that the aeroccino mixes the hot cocoa so gloriously smooth and velvety which I adore, but it's definitely not necessary.
By making it at home, I love that I can control the sugar and fat content and make it as decadent (or lightened up) as I choose. A mocha for every occasion!
1 shot espresso
1 C milk
2 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
Sweetener of your choice (I use a packet of Splenda)
Dash peppermint extract
Whipped cream, if desired --->is it ever not?
Crushed peppermint, for topping
Combine the milk, cocoa, sweetener and peppermint extract in the aeroccino, or in a mug. Heat until warm and mix well (if not using a frother). While this is heating, brew your espresso in a large mug. Pour the hot cocoa over the espresso. Top with whipped cream and crushed peppermint. Enjoy!
