So we are approaching another big milestone in our house: potty training! Is it weird that this makes me a little sad? Of course the thought of no more diapers is like a dream come true in some way. But in another, I'm freaking out because a) my baby continues to grow up b) I'm feeling super daunted by the prospect of this and c) I'm confused over certain logistics (like what happens if we are on the NJ turnpike and she has to GO?!).
Can I also just say that In a previous life B.C. (before children), I would be mortified by the thought of potty training, let alone talking about it or writing about it for the world to see. But, now that I've gone through all the mom things like oh I don't know - giving birth! being projectile pooped on! - I guess it's not that gross to me anymore. And so, here we are.
I actually haven't done much research prior to moving forward with this, I consulted my good friend Carly who just successfully potty trained her daughter in a short weekend and so that's all I need. Just like any successful project, I'm starting with a plan.
1. Gather all necessary items. Amazon Prime and Target free shipping, thank you for existing. We now have invested in all of the above items, many of which under reco from Carly.
2. Plan a rewards system. Lots of things work for different kids. Penelope loves stickers and she loves Dora the Explorer. I found this free printable chart from Nick.com and I have lots of sticker sheets. A full row of stickers equals a treat.
3. Make it special. She will wake up to a brand new sippy cup, stickers, a book and big girl undies. I'm hoping this will help her get excited about getting on board.
And so as we embark on this project, I feel a little daunted and honestly a little scared...so please tell me...any potty training tips from you experienced moms out there? any hilarious horror stories? bring 'em on!
