On Friday, I was lucky enough to get a surprise day off from work. So I kept Penelope home from daycare and planned an afternoon at the Newport green splash park with my parents. This was one of the items on my summer bucket list that we hadn't quite gotten to yet, so I was excited to squeeze it in just before summer's end.
Newport Green is the most amazing city park. It resides right on the Hudson River in a truly gorgeous neighborhood. The entire area overlooks Manhattan and in addition to a kids park, there is also a mock beach set up for people to lounge in Adirondack chairs in sand and take in the glorious views.
To P's dismay, the carousel wasn't running while we were there.
Penelope adores the splash park. I velcroed up her water shoes and put on her rash guard suit and we hit the water. Note to parents: always bring some pails and toys for your kids to play with in the water. I've made that mistake in the past and wound up spending most of the time chasing P around ensuring that she doesn't steal other kids toys. A few inexpensive sand pails will do the trick.
Lots of running. She especially loved stepping on the spurting water.
The park is just so lovely. I'm so happy that we got there before the end of summer.
And the view. Seriously? It's just too amazing.
