A couple of weekend's ago, we woke up early on a Sunday morning and made a last minute decision to head to the apple orchards for some apple picking. I had mentioned apple picking to Penelope once weeks ago, and of course, she had proceeded to ask me about it daily. #theyneverforget
It was a truly glorious fall day - chilly in the shade and warm in the sun - so we thought what better way to spend a morning? Plus, I was really hankering for some honey crisps.
We went out to Wightman's Farm in Morristown, NJ, the same spot where we went pumpkin picking last year. We stuck to only apples this time around, and figure we will save the hayride and pumpkin picking for the next visit.
Penelope was sooooo excited to pick some apples. She really got into it. Oh and she also loved doing some taste-testing.
When lots of trees are picked over from the mid-section down, it helps to have a super tall daddy to help pluck the untouched apples at the top.
Loved all of the gorgeous colors.
I even gave Penelope a boost to reach some higher up apples. On another note, I've started wearing a backpack for our family outings and it has been a real game changer. So much easier to have 2 free hands without 1) worrying about a bag slipping off my shoulder and 2) breaking one shoulder at a time from the weight. I've been using this one for months and it's not only functional, but also cute.
To get into the orchards, you have to pay a $15 membership fee, which includes 4 people. The good news is that it's a one-time payment for the season, you get 2 reusable bags for the orchards, and 2 bottles of water, as well as a little coupon card for discounts on the hayride and pies at the farm store. We will definitely use it again when we come back for pumpkin picking.
This just cracked me up. Highest apple in the orchard and Shaun was able to get it.
We weren't able to get a whole family photo, but I'm glad that I decided to bring my real camera (not just my iPhone) to take some higher quality photos of our outing. We've been enjoying apples each day and my stash is starting to dwindle...looks like another trip to the orchards is in order!
Do you go apple picking? What are your favorite kinds? And what do you do with all of those apples once you bring them home?
